Today, social networks are part of our lives.
People of all ages are actively involved and they share moments from their everyday life with the rest of the world through photos and videos.
Unfortunately, these photos are not always as we see them. Many times filters and effects have been used to make everything more “shiny, cute and beautiful”.
By following fashion trends there may be some icons that we want to look like.
So we “tweak” our photos to get closer to them. This is a phenomenon that has been strongly observed in recent years and today with social networks it has become more pronounced, especially among young women.
Filters are something that all of us may have used at least once. Either to get a better result, or because we just got together with our friends and wanted to make our photos funnier, while having a good time.
Of course, there is also the scenario where editing a photo is done with the only purpose of getting more comments and likes.
So when this happens consistently and to an excessive degree, we probably have to wonder:
“Why is all this happening? Am I really gaining something? Is it worth it and how does it benefit me? Is it stressing me out?”.
We need to remember that true beauty does not come from perfection, flawless photography or social media visibility.
Real beauty comes from within us and comes out when we are ourselves.
A filter on a photo can bring us comments of admiration and make us feel temporary joy. But then it will fade away. This has the unique effect of creating anxiety, worry, or even insecurities.
Let’s accept ourselves exactly as we are and understand that likes and general visibility through social media do not determine our worth.
Filters are not necessary, nor do they need to be present in our photos.
Let’s capture happy, beautiful and real moments that we share with friends and acquaintances, in order to have a good time and preserve good memories.
Love yourselves and feel proud! You are beautiful on your own!
