Solidarity and Empathy.

Tradition and religion are sensitive and ambiguous topics. Our beliefs and the fear to go against something that exists for years, lead us to contradictions and misunderstandings. Especially when we are talking about the East and the West world, the gap is immense.

However, when some people’s beliefs violate other people’s liberties, then we can confidently be opposed and stand next to those who fight for the evident.

Locks that are not allowed being free, withdrawal of products that have the colors of the rainbow, just because they refer to homosexuality. In reality, it is just deprivation of joy, happiness and optimism. We won’t try to explain why this is happening. After all, we are talking about beliefs that we cannot understand, either because they come from centuries ago, or because they are talking about a patriarchy so fanatical that the west world cannot understand. We are going to talk though about the things we can do from now on.

First, we must acknowledge the fact that things won’t change overnight and we should not expect that one march will bring the wishful result. It needs action, better yet, reaction. We have enough of this sluggishness, of this mentality that since it’s happening somewhere else it is not our business. It is our business. Anything, anyone and any action that goes against the liberty of any creature is our business because one day it will come to our door. Even if nothing like that happens to our country, now, more than ever is imperative to show sympathy.

We are not alone. It is not us and them. It is not, they oppress women and we are not. It is not, they have war and we don’t. The human race is one. We will scream about it until we become understood. Everyone has the right to be happy and to use his free will. We will shout it, whisper it, and teach it.

We will do it by cutting our hair in front of the ‘police of morality’, marching, men and women together, posting on instagram. Don’t have the illusion that by doing nothing it is not something. Most of the times, silence is worse because it shows tolerance. Each one of us has a role to play, depending his filters and abilities.

Whatever we choose to do, the most important thing is to be united and show solidarity. No one should feel alone; on the contrary he should feel the power of the world. Nowadays, we get informed in real time, so “I don’t know”, “I wasn’t aware” are not the correct answers. We owe to claim our liberties, we owe to support those in need, and we owe to talk.

To whom do we owe? We owe all that to ourselves. We chose to come to this planet and we promised to do our best.
